Blacktail Deer . Black Bear
Cottrell Ranch, located in beautiful Northern California, covers 14,000

and reside on the ranch. We focus on herd management by carefully selecting which

Lands Management: - Loss of habitat is the single
most important challenge facing wildlife populations today. In response to this
problem the Cottrell Ranch has enrolled in the California Department of Fish and
Game Private Lands Management Program. We are now consulting with biologist to
make biologically sound habitat improvements that will benefit wildlife, like
providing new water sources, clearing oak woodlands, planting native plants for
food and making brush piles for cover. Enrolling in the PLM program will help
to achieve our goal to conserve and maintain our wildlife for future generations
to enjoy as we do today.
There are currently 90 PLM properties.
The program encompasses more than 895,640 acres of wildlife habitat.
California has about 101 million acres of land, about half of which is privately
owned. Cottrell Ranch is 14,000
acres of which 7,000 are PLM acres. The largest PLM property is 270,000 acres;
the smallest property is 340 acres. The average PLM size is about 9,952 acres;
half have fewer than 4,500 acres. Participation in
the program requires submission and acceptance of a sound management plan.
PLM areas are licensed for 5-year periods; annual reviews ensure
that agreed-upon habitat improvements are made. Cottrell
Ranch now offers expanded hunting dates. Dates are August 1st - November 30th.
